Are You Valued And Awake?
Wednesday May 20, 2020
Wednesday May 20, 2020
I often wonder if anyone really cares about what you and I are doing. I mean sure, in the moment, it may appear like people "care" when we get a text or someone leaves a comment on a FB post. There's a certain rhythm in our day to day lives, but are we all just fragments in space? Even Kobe Bryant, one of the greatest athletes of all time, shocked us all by tragically passing away earlier this year. Now that a few months have passed and we're caught up in Covid-19, does anyone really care anymore? Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I felt inspired to talk about values and what brings us meaning in our day to day lives. I was moved listening to Marc Maron's recent podcast where he honors his late girlfriend, Lynn Shelton who just passed away from a blood disorder. I play a clip from a Masterclass episode where David Sedaris talks about the value of observation and being awake. if you stare at your phone and Netflix all day, are you truly awake? I also talk about a fascinating article in The Intercept called, Screen New Deal. If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. About three weeks ago, I read a post on Facebook from my next guest about the impact the pandemic is having on the yoga industry. She shared some honest and insightful words and I immediately felt inspired to ask her to talk on my show. Today on the Spiritual Spiral Podcast, I am excited to welcome Missy Kai Hoffman. Missy has over 2,000 hours of extensive training in yoga, FRA and FRC, massage therapy, pranayama, anatomy, physiology and she is the founder of The Body Intuitive where she strives to take a more personal and holistic approach when treating her clients. Missy talks about what sets her business and approach apart from others and what inspired her to start her own business in the first place. Missy goes beyond just the physical practice of yoga and includes breath and body work, mobility, sexuality and holistic healing. We talk about the current state of the yoga industry, the impact the pandemic may be having on yoga studios and we talk about the good and bad of social media. Please be sure to follow Missy on Instagram by clicking HERE or reach out to her through her website for a free consultation. If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. Please share the shows with your friends or head on over to iTunes and write a quick review. Duped and Why The Doc Has To Stop

Is the coronavirus proving there's simply an onslaught of just too much information? Everyone has an opinion, opinions constantly change, no one is listening and even Dr. Fauci is changing his stance on whether we should wear masks. Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I talk about my utter disdain for Dr. Fauci and how he needs to do us all a favor and just stop talking. Will Los Angeles ever resemble the amazing city it once was? I read an excerpt from a fantastic article in this week's LA Magazine called, Los Angeles As We Knew It is History. I talk about how disruptive the media has been throughout this crisis, how people on Facebook are now judging others based on whether or not they wear a mask and I also play a clip where Elon Musk is questioning the response to the virus. Make sure you listen to the very end of the show when I play a clip of Joe Biden talking about his hairy legs. If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. Please share the shows with your friends or head on over to iTunes and write a quick review. Experts, Know-It-Alls And Your Immune System
Tuesday May 12, 2020
Tuesday May 12, 2020
Do you listen to experts anymore? Do you listen more carefully when an expert is speaking? It almost feels like when you go on to Facebook, everyone thinks of themselves as an expert. Maybe we simply live in a world full of know-it-alls. Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I talk about the diminishing returns that come from being an expert and I share thoughts about a recent article from PBS about valuing expert opinions. I also share thoughts about my worries surrounding human to human interaction. Will people feel comfortable giving handshakes or hugs anymore? Is the world a better place if there are more germaphobes? Does anyone out there want to talk about building up the immune system or does the world simply want everyone to just stay home? I share thoughts about a fantastic article in the Atlantic called, "Flying Will Never Be The Same" and I also play a clip where Bill Maher discusses the coronavirus and why it may not make sense to force everyone to stay home. If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. Please share the shows with your friends or head on over to iTunes and write a quick review. Laurie Cohen Peters

Thursday May 07, 2020
Do you see the Fox News logo and immediately jump to conclusions? When you see a story in the New York Times, have you already made a judgement about the article before reading it? Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I am excited to welcome Health Freedom Advocate, Laurie Cohen Peters to the show. Laurie is involved in sustainable agriculture and she has worked with the Non GMO movement. She also started her own non-profit to support sustainable farmers. I first found out about Laurie just a couple weeks ago when a mutual friend suggested I should follow her on Facebook. If you've listened to my show, you probably know by now how I've questioned and been curious about how our culture has reacted to the coronavirus. And it's becoming clear if anyone questions it on social media or thinks it may be an overreaction, you're often labeled a hater or your post is simply taken down off of Facebook. Laurie has been incredibly active on social media sharing stories and viewpoints that go against what the media is telling you but I believe she is sharing a perspective worth paying attention to. We talk about the response to the coronavirus and what has inspired her to become so vocal on Facebook. We also talk about the good and bad of social media and the importance of staying objective and what it means to experience cognitive dissonance. It's an insightful talk and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. Please share the shows with your friends or head on over to iTunes and write a quick review. You can also support the show by visiting my Patreon page at patreon.com/eddiecohn. Carmen Rizzo

Maybe the most important trait or quality of a "successful" artist is knowing how to pivot and evolve with the times. Maybe for an artist, it's no longer about sales but simply about being heard and getting people's attention. Today on the Spiritual Spiral Podcast, I am excited to welcome producer, mixer, DJ and my friend Carmen Rizzo to the show. Carmen has worked with well-known artists including Alanis Morissette, Coldplay, Seal, Paul Oakenfeld and he has a new single out now called “Flow” featuring Vanraj Shastri. Carmen and I talk about the importance of pivoting, being open to change and why you may have to create with a sense of urgency. We talk about social media, tech and the impact it's had on his life as an artist and how an innocent post on IG can somehow be misconstrued. I ask him if the day and age of full length records is over and we also talk about the value of using this lockdown to find time to create. Be sure to follow Carmen on Instagram by clicking HERE and definitely check out his music on iTunes or Spotify. All the music you hear on today's show has been produced by Carmen. If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. Please share the shows with your friends or head on over to iTunes and write a quick review. First Dopamine And Now Fear
Sunday Apr 26, 2020
Sunday Apr 26, 2020
"You figure out what someone's scared of... you can get him to do pretty much anything." It's a powerful line from Michael Shannon in the first episode of WACO. It feels like the world wants everyone to be scared to go outside. The world, the media, corporations and even governments benefit if people live in fear. Facebook and Netflix certainly benefit if people stay home all day. Will people feel comfortable going outside anymore? Will handshakes and hugs simply be a thing of the past? Should people have been wearing masks all along? Today on the Spritual Spiral, I share thoughts about the innate risks we face every single day just by waking up. Even before Covid-19, there was always a chance people could die, get hit by a car or catch a nasty virus. So why is so much attention being paid to Covid-19? While the government implores that the best thing to do is stay home, do they really have our best interest in mind? Or is it merely just serving their own interests? Todd Beeson

Thursday Apr 23, 2020
Is anyone truly listening anymore? Can you question what's happening without being called a hater or a conspiracy theorist? It's widely believed that 5G first rolled out in Wuhan so it is just a coincidence that this virus began in Wuhan? Is Facebook merely creating more chaos as it amplifies all of the misinformation we read every single day? Today on the Spiritual Spiral Podcast, I am excited to welcome musician/producer and artist Todd Beeson to the show. Last week, I was drawn to a "conversation" Todd was having on Facebook which ultimately turned into Todd being name-called. Todd and I talk about what happened that day on Facebook, its emotional impact and how this type of behavior is rampant on Facebook every single day. Todd also shares personal experiences he's had with tech that's caused him to have seizures and in turn, question the safety of technology and 5G. Todd also talks about some powerful lessons he is learning as he's forced to stay home and embrace solitude. Todd is an incredibly talented musician and producer and I share a couple songs on this episode from two of his bands, Marvelty and The Lift. Be sure to visit his website by clicking HERE where you can check out some of his music. If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful.
