Well, this is a great talk. The day I recorded this conversation, I felt a sense of anxiety growing inside my body. It was the day after Los Angeles was placed on a virtual lock down, but it's incredible what a face to face conversation can do for my state of mind. Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I am stoked to welcome actress, stuntwoman, personal trainer and all around bad-ass, Rachael Holoway to the show. I met Rachael almost two years ago at Training Mate which is hands down my favorite workout facility in Los Angeles. In the midst of this current crises, Luke Milton, the owner of Training Mate, quickly moved all classes to an online format. Rach and I talk about the insanity surrounding the current state of affairs and how it's impacting her life. She shares her overwhelming love and gratitude towards Training Mate and the family and sense of community that has been built there by Luke and his wife. Rach also shares some stories about her path as an actress and what it was like working with Jackie Chan. It's a rad talk and I hope you not only enjoy it, but it reminds you about the importance of continuing your exercise routine especially during these unpredictable circumstances. If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. Please share the shows with your friends or head on over to iTunes and write a quick review. Dr. Damon Raskin

Thursday Mar 19, 2020
With the coronavirus in full swing seemingly impacting our culture in every imaginable way, I want to try and bring some nuance and thoughtful perspective surrounding Covid-19. I throughly enjoyed the talk I had last night with Internal Medicine physician Dr. Damon Raskin. Dr. Raskin is based in the Pacific Palisades and today on the Spiritual Spiral, you'll hear firsthand how the coronavirus is impacting his life and his practice. Did he ever imagine anything like this would be a part of his day to day life? How is he coping and how are his children dealing with this new way of life. I think a lot of people forget there also millions of people with various types of health conditions who still need medication or treatment so we dive in and talk about some of the complications brought on by this new virus. If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. Please share the shows with your friends or head on over to iTunes and write a quick review. Marc Mulcahey And It's Time For A Reset
Wednesday Mar 18, 2020
Wednesday Mar 18, 2020
With this huge cultural shift in how we're living our day to day lives, maybe it's time for some self reflection and a reset. If nothing else, maybe this crises will help us reprioritize our lives and remind us of what's truly important. Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I welcome my friend Marc Mulcahey back to the show. I wanted to check in with Marc and see how he's handling this situation and the call for isolation. We talk about the millennial generation and how they may not be taking this situation as seriously as they should be. Marc went for a hike at Runyon Canyon and he couldn't believe how many people were outside hugging and shaking hands and definitely not practicing social distancing. We talk about the daily shift in energy and mood we are both experiencing and the importance of staying active even at home. He talks about his family back home in Wales and shares a few thoughts about the value of trying to see the positive in this strange and dire situation. One way he's doing that is by setting up online happy hour dates. Not a bad idea. :o) If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. Mister Rogers' Neighborhood And The Value Of Being Seen
Monday Mar 16, 2020
Monday Mar 16, 2020
What do you do or where do you turn to feel human? What do you need to feel seen and important? Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I continue to discuss my personal struggle surrounding the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak. It seems as each day passes, the anxiety and questions swirling around inside my head are only growing stronger. I'm trying to stay positive and find the silver lining but each day, it feels like there's just more bad news. I taught a yoga class last night right before the city of LA mandated a citywide gym closure. I talk about the joy of teaching that one final class but I couldn't help but feel the nervous energy inside the room. I talk about Dave Eggers' book, The Circle and humanity's innate need to feel seen and important. I also just finished watching a wonderful movie starring Tom Hanks called "It's A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood." I was pleasantly surprised at how timely and profound the movie's message was. Mister Rogers' says, "To die is to be human and anything human is mentionable. Anything mentionable is manageable.” I'd like to think we're going to get through this and in a few months time, we'll proudly look back at how strong we were as we navigated our lives through this crises. If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. Please share the shows with your friends or head on over to iTunes and write a quick review. The Unsettling Reality Of Not Being In Control
Saturday Mar 14, 2020
Saturday Mar 14, 2020
Are we ever really in control of our lives? As hard as we try to micromanage every facet of our life, maybe this pandemic is a harsh truth that we're never really in control. Like most of you, I do as much as I can to try and stay healthy and give myself a sense of control, but are any of us really in the driver's seat? Is mother nature the great equalizer and a reminder of just how fragile and unpredictable life really is? Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I continue to ponder and discuss the Covid-19 pandemic and wonder if much of our fear emanates from the unknown and the harrowing thought that none of us may be in control. I'm also noticing that I'm recording these podcasts more often probably because it's helping me navigate and cope with the anxiety and confusion that I feel during this time of crises. I also talk about a fantastic article that came out today in the New York Times by Abdullah Shihipar called Coronavirus and the Isolation Paradox. If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. Please share it with your friends or head on over to iTunes and write a quick review. What Sounds Scarier Than A Cold?
Friday Mar 13, 2020
Friday Mar 13, 2020
Coronavirus. Disease. Pandemic. These haunting words combined with the 24 Hour news coverage and social media is creating more tension every single day as we prepare for the supposed impending doom of American culture. When I went to Trader Joe's today, it felt like people were preparing for the end of the world. Is an apocalypse coming or are we all just being manipulated by the media? Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I continue to try and sort out the mess created by the media, the government and the coronavirus. Does anyone even know the common cold is considered a coronavirus? Does anyone know this flu season has killed more children than any other flu season on record? Why are people rushing to the grocery stores to buy countless rolls of toilet paper? It makes no sense but it feels like we have no choice. I'm not sure if China is hoping to control the world or the media just wants to scare the hell out of us or use this story to push Donald Trump out of office. Whatever the reason, I will continue to examine the coronavirus story, the manipulative nature of the media and ask challenging questions to try and make sense of it all. I also play a few clips from a recent Sam Harris Podcast where he talks with infectious disease specialist Amesh Adalja. If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. You could share it with your friends or head on over to iTunes and write a quick review. The Potential Overreaction
Tuesday Mar 10, 2020
Tuesday Mar 10, 2020
40,000 people die each year from car accidents across America. 80,000 people died in the United States in 2018 from the flu. Over one million people die each year with complications stemming from diabetes. What if the media spent all day reporting new cases of the flu or every time someone died from a car crash? Would our culture react similarly to how we're responding to the coronavirus? Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I can't help but wonder if this is all just a huge overreaction? Is the media jumping all over this story to try and freak us all out and grab our attention or are they trying to actually help us out and give us useful information? And of course I can't help but wonder with an election around the corner, if this is all simply political? If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. You could share it with your friends or head on over to iTunes and write a quick review. Episode 100! I can't believe it but we've officially made it to episode 100. Thank you so much for the continued support throughout this journey and what better way to celebrate this milestone than to have an incredible conversation with actor, writer and director Andy Harris. I met Andy about a year ago and I was always impressed with his positive energy and sense of humor and after finding out he was an actor, I had to ask him to join me on the show. Andy is originally from Louisiana and after graduating from LSU, Andy moved to New York to study acting at The Actors Studio. Andy and I talk about what it was like going to one of the best acting schools in the country and we talk a little bit about the impact James Lipton had on his craft. We discuss tech and social media and the effect they're having on the the creative process and we also share thoughts about the impact Netflix is having on the movie industry. Andy and I also talk about the coronavirus insanity, life and death and Andy shares a personal story when he found out he was diagnosed with DVT. If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful. You could share it with your friends or head on over to iTunes and write a quick review.
